Memorial Hermann Northwest Emergency Department  I  Houston, TX

PhiloWilke designed the renovation, expansion and alteration of an existing 15,700 SF, first floor Emergency Department to 25,330 SF, with an addition and expansion of a new 5 bay ambulance dock and canopy (2,300 SF). The new design promotes better patient and staff flow and achieves a more efficient operation within the department. The space also accommodates a more functional triage configuration, improved primary treatment and trauma areas, and the creation of a separate vertical area for treatment of less emergent patients. The adjacent observation area was designed with treatment rooms to match the ED, allowing the ED and Observation Departments to share these spaces as necessary to meet shifts in daily patient census.

The full renovation was completed in a three-phase construction schedule over 15 months. Other work included minor exterior demolition, new finishes, mechanical, plumbing, and electrical upgrades, minor site work upgrades, a new interior decontamination room, and exterior decontamination storage area. Most importantly, the Emergency Department was operational during all phases of construction.
